This cookie policy explains the cookies BabyMakers uses, what each one does, how long it lasts and how you can change your choice. Read it with our privacy policy, which explains how we handle personal information.
What cookies are
Cookies are small files that a website saves in your browser when you visit it. They let the website remember something from one page or visit to the next, such as a choice you made.
Cookies set by the website you are visiting are called first-party cookies. Cookies set by another company whose service the website uses are called third-party cookies.
How we use cookies
- Cookies that make our website work. They keep the Site's forms secure, remember choices you make, such as UK or US guidance, and remember your answer about optional cookies. They are always on, because the Site cannot work properly without them.
- Cookies that measure website use (analytics cookies). Google Analytics sets these. In the United States, except Washington, Nevada and Connecticut, they are on unless you turn them off. Everywhere else they are set only if you agree. They help us see how many people visit each page and how they found it, so that we can make the Site better.
We do not use advertising cookies.
Cookies that make our website work
BabyMakers sets these first-party cookies.
| Name | Purpose | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
babymakers-session | Connects your browser to its session on our server, which keeps the Site's forms secure. | 1 hour after the last page you open |
XSRF-TOKEN | Protects the Site's forms from cross-site request forgery, an attack that sends a form to the Site from another website. | 1 hour after the last page you open |
bm_market | Remembers whether you chose UK or US guidance. It is set only when you make that choice. | 1 year |
bm_safety_market | Remembers the nation or country you chose for emergency and urgent-care numbers. It is set only when you make that choice. | 1 year |
bm_analytics | Remembers that you turned Google Analytics off on our privacy choices page. It is set only when you make that choice. | 1 year |
Google's consent message, which asks whether you agree to analytics cookies, sets these cookies on our website to remember your answer.
| Name | Purpose | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
FCCDCF | Used by Google's consent message. Remembers your choice about optional cookies, so that you are not asked on every page. | 13 months |
FCNEC | Used by Google's consent message. Google lists its purpose as analytics: it helps Google check how the message works. | 1 year |
Staff who sign in to edit the Site also receive cookies that keep them signed in. Visitors do not.
Cookies that measure website use (analytics cookies)
In the United States, except Washington, Nevada and Connecticut, Google Analytics sets these cookies unless you turn it off on our privacy choices page. We use it there only to measure which pages are visited, never for advertising. In Washington, Nevada and Connecticut it does not set these cookies unless you agree. Outside the United States it sets them only after you agree in our consent message, and until you agree it does not load, so these cookies are not set and nothing is sent to Google.
| Name | Purpose | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
_ga | Used by Google Analytics. Tells one browser from another, so that we can count visitors without knowing who they are. | 2 years |
_ga_<container-id> | Used by Google Analytics. Keeps track of your current visit. The end of its name is our Google Analytics ID. | 2 years |
Google Analytics receives the address of each page you open without anything after the page name, so it never receives the dates or numbers you enter into a calculator or the words you search for. We have turned off Google signals and ad personalization, so this information is not used to show you advertising. Google Analytics does not run on pages about ectopic pregnancy or pregnancy loss, on our safety page, or for a browser that turned it off on our privacy choices page.
To learn how Google uses this information, read How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
How to change your choice
In the United States, you can turn Google Analytics off, or back on, on our privacy choices page, linked as "Your privacy choices" at the bottom of every page. Your choice is kept in the bm_analytics cookie for one year.
You can also delete cookies, or block them, in your browser's settings. If you delete them, the Site returns to its default choices and asks again about optional cookies. If you block the cookies that make our website work, its forms may stop working.
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, we treat it as a no: Google Analytics and our consent message do not load.
To stop Google Analytics on every website you visit, you can install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Changes to this policy
We update this policy when the cookies we use change. The last-updated date at the top of this page shows when it last changed.
