Medical disclaimer
Last updated
This medical disclaimer applies to all content and calculators on BabyMakers (the "Site"). They are for general information. They are not medical advice, and they are not a substitute for care from your midwife, doctor or other qualified health professional.
If you need help now
If you are worried about a symptom, or you think you may need urgent care, contact a health professional or call your local emergency number. Get help now lists the symptoms in early pregnancy that need checking straight away, and the services to contact where you are.
No medical advice or professional relationship
Nothing on the Site is a diagnosis or a recommendation of treatment for you. Using the Site, or contacting us, does not create a doctor–patient, midwife–patient or other professional relationship. Ask a qualified health professional about your own health, and do not ignore professional advice or delay seeking it because of something you have read on the Site.
What the calculators can and cannot tell you
Each calculator applies a published method from a source such as the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) or the UK's National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), and it names that method and its source beside the result. The results are estimates:
- they depend on the accuracy of the dates and numbers you enter;
- they rely on population averages, such as a 28-day cycle or a 14-day luteal phase, that may not describe your body;
- they show a range where the evidence has a spread, and a due date is not a prediction of the day your baby will be born;
- a scan or an assessment by your clinician may give a different date, and the date your clinician gives you is the one your care will follow.
Ovulation and fertile-window estimates are not a method of contraception and must not be used to prevent pregnancy.
UK and US guidance
Clinical guidance differs between countries. The Site shows UK or US guidance according to the market you choose, and it states where the two differ. The guidance that applies to you is the guidance of the health service that cares for you.
Accuracy
We take each clinical figure from a published source and cite it. Medical knowledge changes, and the Site may contain errors or information that has become out of date. We do not warrant that it is complete, accurate or current. If you find an error, please tell us through our contact form, or by email at hello@babymakers.com.
